Finish the story begins with: “What a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive.”
In the fairy world Horents the spider spun webs of allure and deceit.
Along each strand were delights of every imaginable kind. The sweet, the sour, the bland and the simple ghastly.
He catered for every taste and liked to sun himself and throw at each passer-by the temptation to “Come into my parlour.”
Horents was a chubby spider, he ate well, and he enjoyed eating, as there was always someone gullible enough to take that one fatal step.
When he pounced, gone was his gentle persuasive self, for in the blink of an eye he injected his venom.
As Horents devoured his prey he would look out at the world going by and smile to himself having no doubt that one of those who flittered past would one day come that little bit closer.

I like spiders. We keep “house” spiders to catch insects. However, none of them want us to wander into their webs.

Thank you dear friend, house spiders are ok if they know their place. We have funnel web spiders in the garden and if disturbed come out fighting. If they bite you, you die……

they fascinate me 🙂 there was a time when I was terrified of them… I’d just moved into a new apartment and had a dream on my first night there… Grandmother spider came to me and asked me to watch over her children. My fear of spiders ended right then and there and now I welcome them into my spaces.

What a great story, Michael, you made it come alive and although we find them deceiving and creepy, we are pleased they take care of tiny critters that we don’t want around our homes. I knew by spending some time this morning reading your posts I might be inspired to write:)
