Tourist Season

I hate the tourist season.

Normally I’m in the kitchen but today Ross was sick, again, and I’m on his post.

Standing here makes me feel innately stupid.

It’s a four hour shift.

Four hours of brain dead numbness.

But I get double time so it’s alright.

The uniform is so uncomfortable.

The helmet and gloves makes me sweat like a pig.

There’s a man down there off to the right checking me out.

If he comes any closer I might dip the helmet and… oops, sorry.

Yes it is a tad sharp.

  1. Dear Summerstommy,

I really enjoyed this take. Always have to wonder what’s going through a guard’s head. Now there’s duty above and beyond the call.

    shalom,

    Rochelle

Thank you Rochelle it is a real treat to engage in this activity each week. Look forward to everyone’s stories and of course next weeks.

It is probably exactly what they think. Although I don’t believe they resort to such extreme gestures. Funny!

  4. Sandra's avatar Sandra says:

A nice insight into the mind of one who can only stand and watch. 🙂

I’d hate that kind of work so much.

  6. Michael's avatar summerstommy says:

Exactly the reason your mind would think of really devious acts. Thanks for your comment.

  7. They also serve who stand and take it. What fun that she got a bit of hers back, even though I imagine that might be the end of guard duty for her. Fun.

Thanks Janet. Yes I imagine she gave up her helmet very soon after this incident.

Funny stuff … I tasted some WIT in there! VERY refreshing!!!! Great and very focused take I have read on the prompts so far!

  11. I must say that’s a totally new twist to the saying “use your head”… sharp

  12. ha a tad sharp
    she’s great!!

  13. Penny L Howe's avatar Penny L Howe says:

This is great, it calls to mind that the guard could write a silly protocol book on all the things they’d like to do to tourists! I really enjoyed your take on the prompt!

  14. Jan Brown's avatar Jan Brown says:

    Great story, perfect ending!

  15. Joe Owens's avatar Joe Owens says:

I cannot help but comparing this to how women are objectified with photos and the like. In her position this woman has no way to protect herself from the assault of admiring eyes. Except of course for the dangerously sharp helmet!

Had to be a reason for having it on her head, I reckon. Thanks for the comment Joe.
