It was a fact the older he grew, the more isolated he became.
He had never been a beauty and old age did nothing for his looks and certainly was a contributing factor in his inability to feel confident in approaching women.
He viewed life as if through a hole in the fence. Safe on one side he could spy on life as it passed him by.
From his vantage point, he felt shielded from the ups and downs of life.
Today he nestled on his side, his love on her side, the gulf between them seemingly impossible.
