2016 April PAD Challenge: Day 5 – Experience V Inexperience

The work experience - 600x480

For today’s prompt:

  1. Write an experienced poem. Or…
  2. Write an inexperienced poem.

What do you have experience in?

Living.

How do you know you have experience?

I’ve lived a long time.

That doesn’t mean you have experience.

It doesn’t?

No you could have been living in a box.

It was a box I recall

As it wasn’t all that tall

In fact I needed to be quite small

As it was likely I would fall.

You are very inexperienced aren’t you?

Yes.

Naïve and gullible I would say.

Very much.

You believe most things you are told.

I do.

I think you may be stupid as well.

You may be right

I do try with all my might

But I have poor sight

So often I take flight.

Experience can get you places

Up there.

Inexperience can get you no places.

Down there.

Experience says you are someone.

Spot on.

Inexperience leaves you oblivious.

This is an interesting conversation – it winds and rises and falls – but it is clever and fun, a little self-mocking, but then, one has to consider laughing at oneself, sometimes …. at least that’s how I read this.

Enjoyable 🙂 And I’m glad that you’re playing this challenge Michael 🙂

Interesting how the POV changes in the last stanza. Great poem though and very wise 🙂

Hmm, I don’t know…sometimes experience can be overrated. I mean, would you really want to be experienced in being sent to the headmaster, or having spent time in gaol, or being a complete jerk? LOL there seems to be a natural progression there 😀
You, my friend, are experienced in giving enjoyment to people through your writing and encouraging your family and friends 😉

  4. Mara Eastern's avatar Mara Eastern says:

I just discovered your blog and I’m quite thrilled, going through your poems! You have a wonderfully fresh perspective on things and a great sense of subtle, subdued humour. I’m a fan 🙂

    • Thank you Mara, please feel free to stop by anytime, just occasionally I write something that makes sense I am sure…….but thanks for the vote of confidence I’ll continue on my merry way….

Please feel free to comment, I appreciate your thoughts.
