Nanna had a whole bunch of precious things. Premier among them was the crystal bowl which when hit by the right light would appear as gold.
She was always coy about where it had come from and it sat high up upon the mantelpiece well away from our grubby fingers.
But it didn’t restrict us from the stories we imagined about the bowl. We believed it had come from the fairies Nanna told us about in the back garden, it had therefore, magical powers.
One rainy afternoon Nanna was sitting with me in the room when I noticed the bowl glow. It wasn’t sunny so it couldn’t be a trick of light.
Nanna noticed that I had seen it too.
‘Its ok,’ she reassured me, ‘They are just coming in for a visit, sit back and don’t frighten them, they are good company.’
And then…as the dust settled around the crystal bowl…….

Oooh, I do like this. I wish my Nana had known fairies. I used to spend a couple of weeks during our summer school holidays with her. I can still remember how she said my name (lol usually in exasperation) but I struggle to remember what she looks like — I don’t have a photo of her.
Those fairies pop up a lot in my stories don’t they. That’s sad Lyn you have no photo, maybe other family members may have one, they can be scanned easily.
There are no other family members. I’m the oldest one left in our family 😦
That’s sad Lyn but a reality I understand. For many years I never had a photo of my mums father then one day I stumbled across an old wedding photo of my mum and dad and there he was in the background. He died before I was born but it’s good see an image of him.
Great tale of wonder ~ Well related ~ The little people are very real to children ~ Nana was very special ~ 🙂
Thank you John for reading and your lovely comment.
Ah lovely story of make believe, Michael. A cute story to save for your grands:)
Make believe? They did turn up you know and brought with them the most mouth watering fairy cakes. Nanna had two!
(smiles) ah that IS lovely!!
You may well laugh my friend but have you ever eaten fairy cakes made by fairies?
And then… I foresee a sequel? 🙂 Nice response to the photo. Thanks for participating again. See you next week.
Thanks Caerlynn the bowl suggested magic to me. Look forward to next week.
Brilliant and delightful — we all could use more magick in our lives. 🙂
Well written Michael with just the correct tension point!
You say the loveliest things MJ
